RiP #1: Title: Development of Novel Methods for Image-Guided Cochlear Implant Programming

RIP #1 Description: Although many cochlear implant recipients experience improved hearing ability and speech recognition, a significant number of users receive little to no benefit from their implant. Prior research has shown image guidance can be utilized to develop strategies for post-operative programming of implants that improve hearing outcomes for these users. To improve existing strategies, we are developing novel methods that provide audiologists with pertinent patient-specific information for clinical decision support.

Roza Bayrak, PhD Candidate (EECS)

RiP #2: Signal in the noise: physiological components of fMRI data

RIP #2 Description: Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) measures changes in blood oxygenation and it can be strongly influenced by breathing, heart rate and other physiological processes. While these physiological components are often treated as a nuisance component in fMRI research, an increasing number of studies indicates that they contain meaningful untapped information about brain physiology and autonomic function. In this talk, we will first explore the relationship of physiological patterns to individual differences in cognitive and behavioral traits. Then we will discuss our proposed method to reconstruct these physiological measures in the common scenario of missing data.
