Date: Thursday, January 20, 2022 Title: Machine Learning in Bioelectronic Medicine and Healthcare

Abstract: One of the exciting areas of innovation in healthcare lies at the intersection of artificial intelligence and medicine. At the Neural and Data Science lab, we are combining the ever-expanding power of machine learning methods with ever-increasing healthcare data and new medical device technologies that aim to replace drugs with electrons. We aim to develop a new way to diagnose and treat diseases using data, algorithms, and electricity. I will provide an overview of our efforts to use machine learning as the foundation of new technologies that will enable early diagnosis of diseases, prediction of clinical deterioration and personalization of bioelectronic therapies. I will also describe the various challenges and opportunities that arise in the effort to translate such technologies from the lab to the bedside.

Speaker Bio: Dr. Zanos is the head of the Neural and Data Science lab at Northwell Health and an Assistant Professor at the Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research and Hofstra’s Medical School. He received his MSc and PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Southern California and his BEng in Computer Engineering from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece. For more than 15 years, he has been developing novel data analysis and machine learning algorithms applied in neuroscience and medicine. He is leading multiple clinical and preclinical federal and industry funded projects, has productionalized multiple clinical predictive algorithms in several hospitals and led machine learning efforts in New York’s largest health system. His projects are published in >35 peer reviewed articles in various journals and became finalists in Fast Company’s 2021 world changing idea in AI and Northwell’s Innovation challenge. He has been awarded the Excellence in Research Award, the Jean Timmins Award and the Center of Excellence in Commercialization and Research Award. He also leads Northwell’s Machine Learning in Medicine group, which rapidly developed and deployed a suite of Machine Learning-based predictive models that augmented healthcare resources by guiding clinical decision-making, to improve both operations- and patient-centered outcomes during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond..

VISE Spring seminar to be led by Theodore Zanos, PhD, Assistant Professor, Institute of Bioelectronic Medicine, Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research Date: Thursday, January 20, 2022 Time: 12:15 p.m. Room Opens, 12:20 p.m. start Location: Stevenson 5326 Title: Machine Learning in Bioelectronic Medicine and Healthcare Abstract: One of the exciting areas of innovation in healthcare lies at…

[12
32,231,72,31,30

https://cdn.vanderbilt.edu/vu-URL/wp-content/uploads/sites/193/2022/01/19203406/Zanos-portrait-scaled.jpeg
