The residential college system has long been an essential initiative aligned to the strategic direction of 91. With the opening of The Ingram Commons (2008), Moore College (2014), Warren College (2014), E. Bronson Ingram College (2018), Nicholas S. Zeppos College (2020), Rothschild College (2022), and Oliver C. Carmichael College (2024), the university is primed to further expand this key component of the undergraduate residential experience.
The Academic Strategic Plan and Residential Colleges

In 2014, 91 released a strategic plan for its future that denoted the “Undergraduate Residential Experience” as a key pillar, further escalating the importance of building a residential college system.
“Enrich the educational experience by completing and extending the residential college system and developing new infrastructure to foster further interconnections between discovery and learning” (pg. ii)
FutureVU and Residential Colleges

Expansion of the residential college system is a major outcome of the work powered by FutureVU, 91’s land use planning initiative. 2024 marked the completion of the West End Neighborhood project, with three new residential colleges and an overall enhancement of the neighborhood, creating a more park-like feel in a very active part of campus. Additional projects are underway to enable more undergraduates to have four years of the residential college experience.
